Sidekick Going to Jenny Craig?

Post

RAZR, ROKR all phones are moving thinner and thinner, and it seems their side kick is no different. A PowerPoint slide talks of a Moto-made Sidekick X RAZR Multimedia device. Since Moto’s RAZR line consists of ultrathin phones, it’s a safe bet to assume the Sidekick X RAZR will be a slimmed-down version of the current Sidekick, complete with all the texting, web-browsing functions of the original. Stay Tuned for more news.

Nokia New Phone, Not American… Unless you want it!

Post

It’s not much use to those of us in North America but Nokia flagship “multimedia computer” just launched pretty much everywhere but here. It’s mid-march which means the ($736) Nokia’s N95s now shipping in “key markets” spread across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. So while the rest of world is enjoying that 5 megapixel camera, integrated GPS, WiFi, HSDPA, and dual-slidin’ S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 action. Nokia does release a lot of their products in the USA, but generally carriers don’t pick up their higher end phones. Don’t be afraid to go to the Nseries website!

Sidekick 3 Gets Updated

Post

sidekickupdate.jpg

If there are two things in common with Sidekick 3 owners is that they’re all a bunch of chatty Kathies and they love hanging out with teenagers. T-Mobile’s upcoming Over-the-Air (OTA) update can help them with the first, but not with the second.

Once your SK3 is brought up to speed with Release 3.4, you’ll have access to myFaves, an improved “Active” address book, a text message character counter, and the ability to save photo attachments from emails onto your SK3 photo album. The automatic update is rolling out starting today, but will be gradually deployed over a month, so don’t worry if you haven’t gotten it yet.

This Phone is Too “Qool”

Post

The Twins come in two different flavors; the Twins 168 is a tri-band dual SIM handset that allows both SIMs to be active at all times. Rolling with CDMA? Then the T178 is for you, with tri-band GSM, plus a CDMA 800 / 1900 / 1X radio all in one set. This is top-shelf stuff if you are a business traveller — no need to swap between SIMs to check your messages at home and throwing in the dual-purpose CDMA / GSM model does the same for CDMA users. The Glider is a quad-band Windows Mobile device with a sliding keypad, a 195MHz OMAP850 core, 2.8 inch touchscreen, Bluetooth 1.2, WiFi, EDGE data, and a 2 megapixel cam. This is a solid device and we absolutely loved the red backlit touch-controls mounted on the face. The QDA Icon is touted as the world’s slimmest PDA phone with a 4 megapixel camera, and as such, it was given props with an Innovations honour at CES. The touchscreen QDA Icon is available in either dual-band GSM 900 / 1800 or 900 / 1900 versions, with the grunt delivered by a 200MHz OMAP730. Sadly, the only data options are Class 10 GPRS, Bluetooth 1.2 and USB — no EDGE or HSDPA here.

Samsung with B&O Brings Bluetooth some Couture

Post

Samsung and Bang & Olufsen are tag teaming again with their new products in hope of demonstrating their clean and hip urban style. Their last meeting of the minds left everyone with a sour taste a bit. The the WEP 420 “high class” Bluetooth headset is their new baby. A sliding cover on the headset offers a clean, button-hiding design while helping to “block static.” The cradle, which of course, charges the headset when not in use can also be “used an interior decoration item” which is… uh, huh? Available in March for an undisclosed price.

Samsung f700.. I Want To Touch It.

Post

samsung-F700-14.jpg

Vincent over at Slashgear has a large hands-on with the Samsung F700 sliding smartphone. Vincent commented that the phones keypad was pretty good, and the feedback to it was outstanding as a whole. The OS he recieved was locked though.

As for the finish, it’s definitely glossy and sexy. It has the same look and feel as the back of an iPod. It looks like it absorbs body oil, looking like a 15 year old prom date.

E-Ten Smartphone

Post

glofish.jpg

But it’s up to you to make it, not me - the reason being that E-TEN’s latest Windows Mobile 6 smartphone has your usual two cameras. One is an auto-focus two megapixel version at the back for hi-quality snaps and vids, and a VGA camera on the front for video calling. The important thing, however, is that it has 3.5G connectivity with HSDPA/WCDMA and Wi-Fi, integrated Mobile Office suite and a 640 x 480 pixel screen.

Gucci To Challenge Prada to Phone Fight

Post

Gucci could create designer handset

You can’t deny that the LG Prada is one slick cellphone, and if anything, the launch of that handset certainly raised Prada’s profile by a few notches in the eyes of the public. Gucci could be getting jealous if the following rumor is correct - that the house of Gucci will be working on a designer cellphone of its own. Further information like the partner (will it be LG, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Nokia, or Motorola?) is still unavailable, and we also don’t know whether this rumored handset will come in a clamshell or slider form factor. Somehow the idea of designer cellphones haven’t really caught on - how many of you already own the LG Prada?
